Why a “Sunday to-do list” is a trap.

If you are reading this while hiding in your car or bathroom for a moment of quiet, or scanning it on your phone while muted on a conference call—take a breath. You are exactly where you need to be.

We need to talk about the phrase that has been weaponized against professional working mothers for decades: "work-life balance.

It sounds lovely, doesn’t it? It evokes an image of a perfectly level scale. ⚖️

On one side, your career, beautifully organized and thriving.

On the other, your family, cooking organic meals and smiling in matching linen outfits.

In the middle is you, completely serene, meditating for twenty minutes every morning, hydrated, fit, emotionally regulated all the time and ready for another flawlessly productive day. 🕊️

But if you are running a business, managing a team, or navigating a demanding corporate career while raising children, you already know the truth: It’s a fucking LIE. And in my personal opinion, we shouldn’t be striving for this mythical “balance”. It's the wrong goal.

"The scale is a myth. And trying to keep it perfectly even is a recipe for a third to-do list—one built entirely out of guilt."

When we treat balance as a daily metric, we fail before the day even begins. If a child wakes up with a fever, the scale tips. If you're in a critical stage of a major project launch, the scale tips

Then comes the internal narrative:

"I’m failing at work. I’m failing at home. Everyone else seems to be figuring this out, so why am I struggling?"

The problem isn't your capability. The problem is the construct.

👉 Enter: What I like to call, Seasonal Osmosis

Instead of striving for an artificial, rigid balance, I want to invite you to adopt a different framework: Seasonal Osmosis

Think of your life NOT as a mechanical scale, but as a living ecosystem. In nature, everything moves in seasons. There is a season for planting, a season for intense growth, a season for harvesting, and an essential season for dormancy.

Osmosis is about natural flow and permeability. It means acknowledging that different areas of your life will—and should—naturally take center stage at different times, without you losing your core identity in the process.

There will be weeks where your career requires high-octane energy, focus, and late nights. That is not a failure of balance; it is a season of professional harvest.

Conversely, there will be weeks where a child needs extra emotional support, or your own body demands deep rest. Permeability means allowing/planning/creating your schedule to shift to accommodate that reality without carrying the phantom weight of corporate guilt.

The Micro-Habit: The Sunday Energy Audit

How do we practically live this way without everything falling apart? We stop auditing our time, and we start auditing our energy. You are a "steward" of your own finite resources: one being your energy. Here's a micro-tip on how your can prioritize it starting next week.

This Sunday (or Monday since it's a holiday), take five minutes before the week starts to ask yourself three simple questions:

1. What season am I in this week? (Is this a high-demand work week, a high-demand family week, or a preservation week?)

2. Where is my energy most required? (Identify the one non-negotiable priority in that category).

3. What can be permeable? (Look at the other areas of your life and intentionally lower the bar to create capacity. If it's a massive week at work, dinner can be takeout on paper plates or potentially delegated to a partner as their domain responsibility. If it's a heavy family week, non-urgent emails can wait an extra 24-48 hours, maybe even add a auto-response email alerting and informing others).

By explicitly naming the focus of the season or week you're in, you give your nervous system permission to relax. You have a focus and a plan in place. You are no longer failing at the things getting less attention; you are intentionally managing your ecosystem.

Let go of the scale. Let your life have a pulse, a breath, and a flow.

To a more grounded week + Welcome to Summer!
